Boxes & Packaging (Merseyside) Limited

Liverpool, Merseyside | Packaging

Local Council: £170,000

The Case

The business had been established since 1981. It later became part of the Mondi Packaging Group until it was one of several business acquired from Mondi by Ian Loggie and Mike Stephenson in September 2005.

The business had been loss making for some time and needed investment in new plant and equipment to restore the profitability.

The first problem that faced Grants for Industry after their introduction to the Company was that they knew the industry sector they operated in was not one that was supported by the local Regional Development Agency; therefore the usual source of grant funding for this type of project was unavailable.

The local council were then approached and after lengthy negotiations it was agreed that an application for grant funding would be made to them.

The result was that a grant of £175,000 was awarded by Liverpool City Council to the Company towards a £360,000 investment in new plant and machinery which enabled the business to not only move into new product areas but also increase its capacity.

It was only GFI’s knowledge of the grant system that made this possible.

Mr Mike Stephenson, Finance Director of Boxes and Packaging (UK) Limited, said “We were originally introduced to GFI by our Corporate Finance advisors and were immediately impressed by their professional approach to our case and their obvious knowledge of the grants system.

Using Grants for Industry made a complex and time consuming process very easy from our point of view and without retaining their services I think it is unlikely that we would have received any grant assistance.

I would have no hesitation in using their services again or in recommending them to anyone else looking for grant consultants.”
